Costa’s began its journey by exporting spices of the orient, flavours evocative of the exotic east, to Portugal and its colonies in far flung recesses of the globe. The spice trade soon grew to encompass the export of an ubiquitous fruit that made its indelible mark on discerning palates. The mango in fact is not indigenous to India. The Portuguese imported strains into India from Brazil when they noticed the climatic similarities in the two countries. Costa’s began exporting the fruit, playing a crucial role in Alphonso’s popularity the world over. Today more than a hundred years forward, it is considered to be one of the tastiest fruits in the world.
From Spices and fruits, Costa’s began to diversify early in the century into packaging canned foods and notably fish products which Goa is so well-known for. Frozen foods have also become a popular segment of Costa’s range. Goan specialty sweets like Dodol and Bebinca, which soon followed suit, are the first of its kind to be commercially produced and packaged by Costa’s in India and relished the world over. From putting Goan cuisine on the world map to becoming Goa’s largest food processing company, Costa’s have been pioneers in this field. Constantly on the lookout for new products and processes to upgrade the same, our range is today a veritable culinary smorgasbord.
Since inception, our primary focus has been to provide foods with uncompromising quality. Our goal is to stay true to that purpose so our consumers can count on us for the highest quality products with exceptional taste. Contrary to the common practice prevalent in the commercial food industry which uses trimmings, volumizing agents or fillers and artificial flavourings and colours to reduce costs and produce ‘market viable’ products, this is simply not our tradition. With strict standards in production and emphasis on food safety and hygiene, only the finest ingredients are approved for production at Costa’s. We have implemented packaging techniques that give our products a shelf life of 18 months with Minimal or No preservatives, bringing to the table the highest taste and convenience to our quality conscious consumers.

Dr. Ivo da Costa Azaredo returned from Lisbon Portugal to take on the mantel of the family business. He was instrumental in introducing Goan specialities like Sorpatel, Vindalo, Xacuti and Recheado commercially to the world cuisine map.
Despite several obstacles that existed during the Portuguese Governance in Goa, Costa’s dispatched its first canned fish tins (Sardines and Mackerels) into the Goan market in December 1961. It was at the same time that the Portuguese regime in Goa ended. Packed by the 3rd generation of the Costa family, to this day it’s quality is in par with its imported counter parts.
